Web Intents ―

Web Intents

I started a project called WebIntents (http://webintents.appspot.com/). The aim of WebIntents is to allow developers to build applications on the web that talk to each other using. This is pretty important for me and it will be interesting to see how it develops. I am going to do a couple of blog posts about it in the near future as it turns out there are a couple of projects that do similar things and there are still a lot of issues that I have to iron out.

Well, it is a very long story, but to cut it short I have still been working on Web Intents, but as luck would have it I found a very similar project called Web Introducer (http://web-send.org/introducer/) started by another Googler (Tyler Close - http://waterken.sourceforge.net/recent.html). The overlaps between the two projects are clear and plainly obvious; a lot of the harder security based challenges have been thought out in greater detail than I did for my version of the project. So I have decided that I will be focusing my effort on the Web Introducer project rather than support WebIntents further (although I am happy to answer any questions you have about it).

Web Introducer

Powerbox

A Powerbox facilitates the creation of links between customer content and resources hosted at Web sites or created on-the-fly from sensors built into the user's Web browsing device.

Web Intents

After some conversations, I moved to try and support Web Introducer as a specification over Web Intents. For one reason or another this didn’t quite work out so I decided to plug away at revising the WebIntents work that I started back in November.

It turns out there is a lot of interest internally with the idea of Web Intents and how it can work in modern browsers.

An API that allows web applications to register themselves as handlers/providers based on data string identifiers and an API that enables other web applications to discover these handlers/providers and gain permission to interact with them.

DAP WG vs. Web Intents

TPACのjoint meeting

DAP *was* a pretty dysfunctional, pointless, stupid thing, 2 years agoとか、そんな話が。

As a point of information
... Apple is unlikely to ever join DAP
... because of IPR concerns and others
... we are somewhat interested in Web Intents
... and would try to comment if it were in Web Apps or joint in Web Apps
... we would not if it were solely in DAP

Darin, Google
... we work together with Apple
... it's fairly important that we be in the group with Apple talking about Web Intents
